Whenever we hear about gun control laws being considered in Blue States, many gun owners in Red States shrug their shoulders and say, “That’s their problem,” “It sucks to be them,” or “They’re getting what they voted for.”
All of these statements are the furthest thing from the truth.
What happens in Blue States impacts ALL of us at some point and it wasn’t something I thought about until recently.
Let me explain.
A “high-capacity” magazine ban made its way through the Washington State legislature and Gov. Jay Inslee (D) just signed the bill into law. While the bill made its way through the legislature, I was concerned but, like so many other gun owners, I thought this wouldn’t impact me.
But then it hit me.
The new law does directly impact me even though I live just over the border in Idaho. That’s because every now and then I have to go into Washington… and their gun control laws apply to whoever enters the state, Idaho residents included.
Now I have to be cognizant of what magazines I carry when I bring my pistol with me. A small slip up and I could break the law.
But the bigger lesson here: there are many Red States that neighbor Blue States. And, chances are, there will be a time or two when we travel through gun control-loving states like Washington. If we don’t want to be hindered by their laws then we need to join Blue State gun owners in fighting the gun control agenda.
Remember: the gun control fight requires all of us – regardless of where we live – because we’re all in the battle to protect our right to keep and bear arms. What happens in one state can happen in any state. And if you give them an inch, they will take a mile.
