During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday, President Joe Biden renewed his commitment to pushing an Assault Weapons Ban.
“I’m sure we’re in a situation where we’re finally having actions on guns,” Biden told Tapper. “By the way, I’m going to get the Assault Weapons Ban before this is over, I’m going to get this again. It’s not a joke.”
The Democrats have focused on passing an AWB since Joe Biden took office. It’s one of the promises the Biden-Harris ticket made to gun control advocates.
Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022. The bill has gone to the Senate and is currently stalled in the Judiciary Committee.
With the Senate divided almost equally, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer indicated passing the bill as-is is almost “impossible,” per a report from Newsweek.
This is the second time Biden has renewed his pledge for a ban in the last few months. According to Breitbart, the president vowed to get the legislation passed if Democrats win two more Senate seats during the midterm elections.
“I want to be crystal clear about what’s on the ballot this year…Your right to choose is on the ballot this year. The Social Security you paid for from the time you had a job is on the ballot. The safety of our kids from gun violence is on the ballot.”
“If we elect two more senators, we keep the House … we’re going to get a lot of unfinished business done.”
We’re less than 30 days away from the midterm elections, and Democrats are going to pull out all the stops. Be prepared for another Assault Weapons Ban push between now and November 8th. Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and other gun control zealots will reignite this fight in a last-ditch effort to keep control of the House and Senate.
Be sure to call and write your legislators and let them know you’re opposed to another AWB. Make sure you’re registered to vote, get family and friends registered, and be sure to vote on November 8th. Visit gunvote.org to learn more.
