According to the NY Times, “Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Democratic majority leader of the State Senate, declared on the Senate floor that New York would “not sit idly by,” urging other state legislatures to “follow our lead.”
The decision by the Democrat supermajority in NY State comes as the NYSRPA v. Bruen SCOTUS decision looms in the coming days. In this case, it is widely believed the state’s restrictive CCW permit process will be struck down by the Supreme Court.
While referring to the states already “restrictive gun laws,” the Times did not mention the failure of those laws to stop the shooting in Buffalo, or any other shooting, for that matter.
It is no stretch to presume that Democrat Governor, Kathy Hochul will enthusiastically sign the new gun control legislative package into law, further restricting the rights of law-abiding NY State gun owners.
