On Tuesday, President Joe Biden is set to unveil an Executive Order aimed at curbing “gun violence.” According to the White House, the announcement will take place in Monterey Park, California, where a mass shooting occurred earlier this year.

Here’s what his Executive Order will include:

Universal Background Checks

The goal is to “increase the number of background checks by ensuring that all background checks required by law are conducted before firearm purchases, moving the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation.”

Essentially, Biden is trying to eliminate Private Party Transfers, which are already legal and heavily regulated.

Red Flag Laws

The Biden Administration will create a public awareness campaign surrounding Extreme Risk Protection Orders – better known as Red Flag Laws – so “the public knows when and how to use” them. This will be done through partnerships “with law enforcement, health care providers, educators, and other community leaders.”

Ghost Guns

Biden’s team will push Congress to pass legislation on “ghost guns.” The White Hous believes there’s a “proliferation of firearms undetectable by metal detectors.” This legislation is likely to target parts kits used for AR-15s and polymer firearms.

Focusing on the Gun Industry

Per the White House, the Biden Administration will address firearms lost during shipment from FFL to FFL, although it doesn’t go into detail about how that will occur.

They will also release information about FFLs that violate federal law and what laws were broken.

Biden’s cabinet will zero in on the gun industry by “encouraging the independent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to issue a public report analyzing how gun manufacturers market firearms to minors and how such manufacturers market firearms to all civilians, including through the use of military imagery.”
