Michigan Democrats, in an attempt to exploit the recent Oxford Michigan school shootings, wasted no time in seeking more gun control measures limiting handgun magazine capacity to 10 rounds. The student killer possessed a handgun with 15 round magazines.

Democrats in the State House and State Senate proposed similar restrictive bills claiming the lower magazine capacity would somehow save lives. If passed and signed into law, the proposed restrictions would become effective on January 1st, 2023. Citizens would be able to keep their current standard magazines under the new law as long as they register their magazines with law enforcement authorities.

According to the Detroit Free Press, “First-time violations would be  a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine of $500. Police, the military, and employees of armored car services would be exempted.”

As is the case with all Democrat proposed gun control measures, the bills punish law-abiding citizens and do not address the fact that a killer will simply carry extra magazines.
