Congratulations to the great State of Alabama – the 22nd state to adopt Constitutional Carry. This is exactly what the Framers had in mind when they wrote the Second Amendment.
In my humble opinion, the new law needs some tweaks, but Alabamans are over the biggest hurdle. It is time to celebrate years of hard work.
However, as soon as Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed the bill, the media began trying to devalue the historic achievement.
“Controversial permitless gun carry bill signed by Gov. Kay Ivey,” the headline writers at the Montgomery Advertiser penned.
Not only is this inaccurate, it’s editorializing. To be clear, Americans do not need a permit to exercise a constitutional right. The right to keep and bear arms does not require a permit. Does the government issue church permits? How about voting permits? Newspaper permits? How about the right-to-be-secure-in-your-home-from-unreasonable-search-and-seizure permits?
It’s constitutional carry, not permitless carry.
Words matter, especially nowadays with the Biden-Harris administration hounding our every step. We cannot allow the mainstream media to choose the words that impact our lives. We cannot allow them to label our victories or set the national agenda.
We should celebrate Alabama’s incredible achievement, but we should also remain vigilant and on constant alert for Joe and Kamala’s next attempt to infringe upon our rights.
